Varsovie à Paris 2013 – Retour sur la simulation de négociations

Although there were 6 delegations at this event, representing India, China, the Other Developing Countries, the US, the EU and the Other Developed Countries, only one delegation turned out to be very successful and a true negotiator.

The Other Developing Countries delegation were the big winners of this 19th Conference of the Parties simulation. They refused any  kind of concession during the first round of negotiations, and asked for an extra $100B  to be added to the Green Climate Fund, which is already supposed to be $100B/year. During the second round, most countries came to them, asking for some effort, which they accepted, on reforestation. During the third and final round, all the other delegations were begging them for more efforts. This ultimately led them to accept a stabilization of their CO2 emission by 2035 in exchange for a commitment from other countries to $200B/year.

This eventually led us to reach the 2 degrees target. It was in fact only possible with one last concession from the US delegation, which, as often happened before, realized it could be an opportunity for them to « save the world »
